VIBRATO is a fantastic technique that allows you to add different colours to the music you play and change the quality of your sound and sound beautiful. It is an easy technique to master so long as it is taught correctly. Vibrato is not a shaking of the finger with tension. You must always feel relaxed without tension, must not grip the violin with pressure or tension from the left hand fingers on the strings
Not all notes require vibrato and going back several generations it was not appropriate to vibrato on every mote. These days in most pieces we add vibrato to every note – in a 100 years time mostly vibrato and styles will change.
So to vibrato you simply roll you finger slightly higher from the note and back again continuously until you achieve the sound you desire always keeping your fingers and knuckles soft and and flexible. There so are many techniques that I give my students which I show in the lesson
